Work-life Balance-Businesses being more flexible

Our work plays a significant part in all our lives. The earnings we receive ensure that we have power, water, there’s food on the table and the rainy-day pot is full.

Work-life balance is always in the back of individuals minds with attempting to manage a career, family and selfcare. It is no easy task to achieve work-life balance in today’s unpredictable business world.

Through the current pandemic we are fortunate to become connected via technology with video conferencing however, this can have a toll with family life especially with some of us working from home with children around.

Working from home has made it more difficult to separate work from daily home life. However, some businesses have become more flexible with the new changes of alert levels allowing contractors or employees to  be more flexible with work hours of their staff.

At Anglo Tasman we value family and understand that this has been a very challenging time for our contractors to have the work-life balance, therefore our managing director was very supportive in accommodating children and family with workspace bubbles.

We received the following feedback from one of our Project Managers Claudio “ I found the flexibility I had working with AT was great as I could spend quality time with the boys when they were at home and then focus on work later in the evening once they were asleep. Also, being able to choose to work at home on certain days really helped our family, where my wife and I could dovetail and share the home learning and looking after the boys.”

It is important to recognise that staff have felt overwhelmed during this uncertain time resulting in increased levels of stress. Therefore, by maintaining a healthy work-life balance it can assist staff to be more invested within the culture of the company and increase productivity.

To put it simply by being flexible, individuals won’t necessarily perceive work as a chore but instead are more likely to work harder, make fewer mistakes and are more likely to become advocates for your brand.

Businesses that gain a reputation for encouraging work-life balance have become very attractive especially by encouraging staff to look after themselves and find balance, it will significantly limit health problems and absences. This will ensure the organisation is more efficient during business hours and people want to be part of the business and culture.

In conclusion, by loosening the reigns when it comes to  people’s work-life balance, we at Anglo Tasman believe that by investing in our team we create a workplace culture that ensures our people are valued.
