Solar SMA Technology Project | Auckland
Auckland nursery and school clean energy projects
Project Background
Anglo Tasman was invited by Mercury to manage a site installation to provide clean solar energy into two Auckland sites. The first location was a nursery (seeding factory to be exact) in Kumeu. The second was St. Dominics Primary School in Blockhouse Bay.
The aim of the project was to provide solar power to each organisation, along with a battery system that could be used to store used power and then call on it to power different machinery or feed it back into the grid.
Scope of Work
Anglo Tasman were engaged early on in the project to oversee the design stage of the project and to manage the installation of all electrical and solar equipment. Our Scope of Work included the following:
Project management and supervision of design, installation and commissioning of plant
Electrical installation
Labour to install batteries and solar panels
Commissioning of the plant
Programme of work
The design and installations went to plan, with each project delivered on time and happy teams within both organisations.
Both the nursery and the school are now using new solar SMA technology paired with battery storage, which has helped to significantly reduce power bill expenses and overall carbon footprint.
It has also provided Mercury with an opportunity for more power to be pushed back into the grid.
Challenges
Installation proved to be challenging at times due to the nature of having to work around school teaching hours and the practicalities of running a nursery business. In the main though, the project ran smoothly and without issue.
